Jamie Johnson, MS, LPC, BCC
I believe that investing in our mind-body health pays great dividends, and one of the most satisfying parts of my job as an licensed professional counselor and board certified coach is forming a partnership with my clients in order to sort out which approaches to personal and professional wellness work best for them.
I work with clients who are experiencing stress, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, grief or loss, and problems at work. My counseling style integrates elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (how automatic thoughts and beliefs may affect our behaviors and limit our choices), Motivational Interviewing (how our motivations and core values affect our readiness for change), positive psychology (enhancing strengths and building resilience), and mindfulness training (focusing on the present with acceptance).
In addition to counseling adults and couples, I am a Board Certified Coach (BCC) and enjoy helping executives and management professionals develop their full potential as leaders, enhance communication and presentation skills, and optimize team performance. I am a former professional actor and singer and use my training and experience in acting and improvisation to help executives and managers practice giving feedback, prepare for difficult conversations, increase awareness of nonverbal communication cues, and experiment with different communication styles before critical meetings or presentations. I have worked with Fortune 500 companies to help their directors and managers practice negotiation and networking techniques and with sales teams to improve client relationship development and needs analysis skills.
I have a Master of Science (MS) degree in Clinical Health Psychology from the University of Michigan - Dearborn. Clinical Health Psychology is a branch of psychology that focuses on the interaction between physical and mental health and strives to address the needs of the whole person by paying particular attention to factors such as sleep, nutrition, exercise and other health behaviors. My board certification in coaching includes training in organizational psychology, effective management skills, career planning and goal setting.
